Speaking & Listening

Speaking and Listening

The Speaking and Listening curriculum at the primary level aims to develop students' confidence, clarity, and collaboration skills, enabling them to express ideas effectively and engage thoughtfully with others. At Tadley Community Primary School, we believe these foundational skills are essential for academic success, social interaction, and lifelong learning.

Our Intent

  • Effective Communication: To equip students with the ability to speak clearly, confidently, and appropriately for different purposes and audiences, fostering articulate self-expression.

  • Active Listening: To cultivate attentive listening skills that allow students to understand, interpret, and respond thoughtfully to what others say.

  • Collaborative Interaction: To promote teamwork and respectful dialogue by teaching students to contribute to group discussions, consider others' perspectives, and build upon shared ideas.

  • Creative Expression: To encourage creativity in oral storytelling, role-play, and presentation, helping students use language dynamically to inform, entertain, and persuade.

  • Critical Thinking: To nurture the ability to ask relevant questions, seek clarification, and reflect on spoken content, enhancing critical and analytical thinking.
