Tadley Community Primary School

Our School Curriculum

Learning for Life - The Tadley Way

At Tadley Community Primary School, our curriculum is designed to be ambitious, inclusive and broad, ensuring that all children are equipped with the knowledge, skills and cultural capital they need to succeed in life. Rooted in high expectations for all, it provides a firm foundation for lifelong learning and fosters a love of learning that will stay with children throughout their lives.

We aim to:

  • Deliver a knowledge-rich curriculum that is carefully sequenced to ensure a coherent progression of learning, enabling children to build on their prior knowledge and deepen their understanding across all subjects.
  • Promote high aspirations for all children, ensuring that the curriculum is accessible to every child, including those with SEND, disadvantaged children, and children with EAL, so they can thrive academically, socially and emotionally.
  • Develop the whole child, nurturing creativity, resilience and independence whilst fostering children's physical, emotional and social well-being.
  • Celebrate diversity and inclusion, ensuring children gain a deep understanding of their local context, while appreciating and respecting the richness of wider global cultures.
  • Prepare children for their future by embedding essential skills such as communication, problem-solving and teamwork, alongside an understanding of fundamental British values and responsible citizenship.

Our curriculum is underpinned by a commitment to ensuring that children achieve their full potential, make exceptional progress from their starting points, and leave our school confident, curious and compassionate individuals.

Reading at Tadley

We follow Little Wandle Letters and Sounds Revised (see more here) for our phonics program in Year R, 1 and 2. Little Wandle ensures the effective, consistent teaching of Early Reading for ALL children using memorable mantras, joyful characters and clear expectations.

From Year 2 we follow Plazoom (see more here) to support children's reading further. This reading comprehension curriculum develops inference and retrieval skills; builds rich vocabulary; increases fluency in reading; and encourages the identification of themes and comparisons in children's reading journeys.

Writing at Tadley

From Year R, we use The Write Stuff  (see more here) to support our writing curriculum. We have developed our writing and grammar curriculum using The Write Stuff to ensure children build confidence with their sentence structure; widen their repertoire of writing options; gain an understanding of what a whole piece of writing looks like; and organise their ideas and have strong cohesion. We teach correct letter and number formation from Year R and cursive handwriting from the Summer term of Year 2. Spelling is taught through our Phonics scheme in KS1 and then we move to Spelling Shed (see more here) to ensure we continue to teach spelling across KS2.

Maths at Tadley

We are part of the North-East Hampshire and Surrey Maths Hub (see more here) and use White Rose Education (see more here) to support our Maths curriculum. In Year R, 1 and 2, we follow the Mastering Number Program to ensure children have a strong grasp of number, place value and number bonds. In Year 4 and 5, we following the Mastering Number Program in KS2 to ensure children have a strong grasp of multiplication tables. These are all key concepts for children to achieve well in their mathematical journey.
